Fencing
Fences take a beating from wind, sprinklers, shifting soil and time. The most common problem is a post that has rotted at the ground line or worked loose, letting a whole section lean. Broken boards and pickets, loose rails and storm-damaged panels are close behind.
Many fences can be repaired section by section: new posts set in place of rotted ones, rails and boards replaced and matched as closely as possible, and gates re-hung. When most of the posts are failing, or the fence is at the end of its life, replacing it often makes more sense than patching it piece by piece.

FAQ
Usually. If the lean comes from one or two failed posts, those posts are replaced or reset and the panels re-attached. If most posts are rotted at the ground, the fence will keep leaning in new places and a replacement is the better investment.
New boards are matched as closely as possible in size and style, but new wood is lighter than weathered wood. It blends in over a season or two, or the whole fence can be stained to even out the color.
Push on the fence next to the post: if it moves at the base, the post is likely rotted or loose at the ground line. Probe the wood just below the soil with a screwdriver; if it's soft or crumbly, the post needs replacing.
