Fencing

Aluminum & Ornamental Fences with First Fence of Idaho

Ornamental metal fences have the look of wrought iron without the upkeep. Powder-coated aluminum doesn't rust, holds its finish and suits front yards, pool areas, gardens and property lines where you want a clear boundary without blocking the view. Steel is heavier and stronger, and is chosen where security matters more.

Around pools, a fence usually has to meet local barrier rules: a minimum height, limited gaps between pickets and at the bottom, and gates that close and latch on their own. Aluminum fences are often used for exactly that, and many panels can be racked to follow sloped ground.

FAQ

Aluminum & Ornamental Fences: common questions

What are the rules for a pool fence?

They're set locally, but most follow the same pattern: a barrier at least 4 ft high, openings too small for a child to squeeze through, and gates that open away from the pool and close and latch on their own. Check with your city before planning a pool fence.

Aluminum or steel?

Aluminum is lighter, won't rust and needs very little care, which makes it the usual choice for homes and pools. Steel is stronger and more rigid, used where security or impact resistance matters, but its coating has to be maintained to keep rust away.

Will an aluminum fence keep my dog in?

It can, with the right height and picket spacing. Small dogs can slip through standard spacing, so puppy-picket panels add extra pickets along the bottom. For dogs that jump, a taller fence helps.
